Meet Hudson
When Hudson arrived at Romeo’s Rabbit Rescue in 2020, he was in serious trouble. One eye was severely diseased, enlarged and protruding, with purulent discharge and a large ulcer across the surface.
The condition was painful, progressive and could not be saved. Yet despite everything he was enduring, Hudson remained gentle, affectionate and brave. He still accepted pats, enjoyed treats and captured the hearts of the people caring for him.

A painful eye that could not be saved
Hudson’s eye disease was advanced when he came into care. The eye was enlarged, protruding, ulcerated and producing purulent discharge. It was not only affecting how he looked — it was causing real pain.
There was no realistic way to restore vision or comfort while leaving the eye in place. Surgery offered Hudson the chance to finally be free from the source of pain and begin the next stage of his life.

The surgery that changed everything
On 13 November 2020, Hudson underwent enucleation surgery to remove the diseased eye. The damaged globe and affected surrounding tissues were carefully removed, eliminating the source of pain.
At the same time, Hudson was also desexed and microchipped, helping prepare him for the future every rescue animal deserves: a safe, settled forever home.
A beautiful recovery
Hudson recovered beautifully. After surgery, the painful, ulcerated eye was gone and he quickly began adjusting to life with one eye.
His carers described him as bright, comfortable and brave. He began eating again, explored his surroundings and accepted the pats, cuddles and treats he had always enjoyed.
The forever home he deserved
In March 2021, the best possible update arrived: Hudson had been adopted. His new family welcomed him home, and he settled in beautifully.
The rabbit who had once arrived in pain was now safe, comfortable and loved. He had moved from rescue surgery to recovery, and finally to the life every animal deserves.

Hudson’s legacy
Hudson’s story reminds us that rescue medicine is about more than treating disease. Sometimes it is about giving an animal the chance to move beyond pain and discover a future they never would have had otherwise.
Through the partnership between Romeo’s Rabbit Rescue, Little Pet Vet and the PAWS Rescue Clinic, more than $890 worth of veterinary services were donated to support Hudson’s treatment journey.
For Hudson, that future included comfort, healing and a family of his own. His journey shows that even after major surgery, life can still be full, happy and deeply loved.
